An original collection of art, photography, assemblages, art brut by Nova Scotia artist, photographer Gary Castle.
Gary Castle has been a professional photographer/artist since 1968. Graduating with a diploma in Photographic Theory in 1967.
Born in1948 at Carroll's Corner, a small farming and mining village in Nova Scotia. He attended Elementary school in one of the last one room school houses at the time. Graduated from the Musquodoboit Rural High in 1966 and attended Halifax Regional Vocational School.
He began his photographic career at Dalhousie University as a bio-medical photographer at the Biology/Oceanography Department/ School of Dentistry and Life Sciences Media Center. In 1981 he left Dalhousie to open his own custom photo-service lab.
He has had numerous solo and group exhibits of his photographic images which have won awards and have been published extensively in journals and books.
His painting/ photo collage works have been included in many group exhibits. His works are also included in the permanent collections of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Art Bank of Nova Scotia and the Public Archives of Nova Scotia as well as many private collections.
Since 1999 he has freelanced mainly in photo book illustration and concentrates on photo collage work, painting and video. His recent work is mostly experimental, incorporating re-cycled photo based materials, old photographs, found objects, paint and digital manipulation.
